Inndulgence
Inndulgence airs on GNAT-TV 15.
Chris Sprague and her husband, Ted, entered the hospitality industry when they opened the doors of the Newcastle Inn, a fifteen-room country inn located on the coast of Maine, in 1988.
Serving breakfast daily and offering a five-course dinner up to seven nights a week, the Newcastle Inn and the culinary artistry of Chris Sprague, soon garnered both local and national praise, receiving four stars for food, service and atmosphere from the Sunday Portland Press Herald and becoming one of only three inns to be given a feature spread in Yankee Magazine.
Although Chris, donned in street clothes and wearing her signature red lipstick, loved visiting with her diners after a long day in the kitchen, the strain of cooking two meals a day and running an inn became overwhelming. Chris and Ted sold the Newcastle Inn and moved to Vermont. But it wasn't long before the hospitality "bug" bit again.
In 1994, they purchased Ormsby Hill and expanded the historic 1764 structure to include ten luxurious guest rooms and an expansive, window-lined dining room. It was, and still is, the inn of their dreams.
The Inn at Ormsby Hill has been given the AAA Four Diamond Award for ten years running - one of just two bed and breakfasts in Vermont to hold such a distinction‚ and is a three-time Yankee Magazine Travel Guide Editors' Pick.
Although she no longer serves dinner, Chris's delicious food is still at the heart of the Ormsby Hill experience. From the freshly baked cookies waiting in your room, to her signature breakfasts (Which include dessert‚ yes, dessert!), every bite makes you feel special. Even the simple things‚ like the homemade granola‚ is so good, it inspired Kellogg's to create an "Inn at Ormsby Hill Blend" for their line of Country Inn Specialties.
And Chris's view of the accolades and awards she and Ted have received?
"It's unreal! I just know that we are very lucky that we get to do what we want for a living. Not only do we get to live in this magnificent 1764 manor house, but we're rewarded everyday with the "thank yous" and "hugs" of our guests. That's the ultimate "Inndulgence."
